Social law advice

The Sternenbrücke children's hospice provides respite care that helps families with terminally ill children cope with the burden of their child's illness and gain new strength. We also provide individual caring support to family members, from the time of the initial contact and throughout the often many years of sickness and until after the loss of the child. We also help the affected families with their applications to funding bodies, such as health and nursing care insurance companies. Throughout the application processing period, the Sternenbrücke team responsible for questions of social legislation are there to support the families, which also includes help at home.

The initial registration with the Sternenbrücke children's hospice can be made over the phone. An appointment will then be made with our family office and the families are informed about everything they need to know about the stay in our hospice. Around five to six weeks before the planned admission date, the family members are contacted again to discuss the form the support will take. During the first meetings with the social legislation team we will collect personal data of the sick child, such as the name and address of the health insurance company, the child's insurance number, the address of the attending paediatrician and questions of home care financing. This allows us to complete the application forms, and all the parents have to do is check and sign them before the applications are legally binding and can be submitted.

The following applications are required to be admitted to the Sternenbrücke children's hospice and can be filled in with the help of our social legislation team:

  • Application for hospice care under §39 para.1 SGB V in conjunction with short-term nursing care under §42 SGB XI or supplementary full inpatient care under §43 SGB XI
  • A doctor's prescription for hospice care
  • possibly a questionnaire about the dependency on hospice care under § 39a SGB V

The application depends on which services are used to care for the sick child at home. Once the Sternenbrücke children's hospice has received the signed documents, they will be passed on to the relevant funding bodies and our social legislation team deals with the applications from then onwards.
