The Sternenbrücke children's hospice not only provides support for the sick young people and their families during the final stage of the young person's life, it also provides respite care during the often long period of illness, which makes up around 80 percent of the work at the children's hospice. Tailored services help the families cope with their child's illness and regain their strength.
The sick young people and their families come to the Sternenbrücke children's hospice for at least 28 days a year (and there is no time limit during the very final stage of the child's life). The average daily cost for the full care and support of all family members is 1,380.00 euros. However, the health and nursing care insurance companies only cover around 60 percent. The remaining 40 percent of the costs have to be met by donations, because most of "our" families, given the very difficult financial circumstances they are in, are unable to cover the costs themselves. This is because caring for their child affects their working life and any savings will be spent on caring for their child. The Sternenbrücke wants to provide loving and sensitive care for everybody (regardless of their financial situation) and therefore has to rely on donations in the amount of 2.1 million euros per year.
The Sternenbrücke can do its work only because there are people who are committed to us and make the public aware of our work. Appeals at company parties, birthdays and weddings, making special wishes come true and voluntary work are just some examples of how you, too, can help us on our way.
If you would like to help the Sternenbrücke to remain a place "our" families can retreat to, you can find more information in the donations section.
