The friends’ association of Kinder-Hospiz Sternenbrücke e.V., which was founded in November 1999, is the predecessor that prepared the way for the Sternenbrücke children’s hospice. While the association initially focused on setting up the children’s hospice, the association now mostly collects donations for the daily running and the non-administrative work at the Sternenbrücke.
The friends' association currently has 1,484 members (as of July 2015) who provide regular support for the children's hospice and sponsor the work of the Sternenbrücke this way. The friends' association is a recognised charitable and benevolent institution and as such can issue donation receipts; it is also a member of the Diakonisches Werk Hamburg.
