Our 2025 “Open house day”
On May 1, the Sternenbrücke Children’s Hospice once again opened its doors and welcomed an abundance of visitors of all ages who came to experience the special atmosphere of our hospice. Under bright sunshine, with a colorful program and many heartfelt conversations, the day became a wonderful and memorable experience for everyone involved.
Sunshine, encounters, and plenty of heart
In the rooms of our academy, three well-attended presentations offered visitors a closer look at the work of our care specialists. The latter shared moving insights into the support we provide for children, adolescents, and young adults with life-shortening illnesses – as well as for their families. Visitors also had the opportunity to ask questions.
Clear the stage for a colorful program
On our garden stage, the well-known presenting duo Yasmina Filali and Thomas Helmer guided the audience through a varied and lively program: Alongside a welcome from our foundation’s Board of Directors, musical performances by Tonia Szkurhan and Volkan Baydar gave the audience goosebumps. We were especially delighted to welcome actors from the TV series “Rote Rosen” (Red Roses), and the impressive show by the PampelMuse school circus drew enthusiastic applause.
Sports, fun, and a dinosaur in the garden
A real highlight – especially for our young guests – was the goal-shooting contest with the HSV (Hamburg-based professional soccer team) goalkeeper team. For one hour, visitors showed off their skills in the large garden and mingled with the pros. HSV mascot “Hermann” the dinosaur also brought smiles to children’s faces as he posed for photos, signed autographs, and cheered on the contestants.
Welcome to the information marketplace
At our “information marketplace”, visitors were able to learn more about many areas of Sternenbrücke – from the nursing and education teams to our academy and animal-assisted interventions. At lovingly decorated stands, our employees talked with guests, answered questions, and invited them to join in creative activities.
The lively exchange, accompanied by tasty culinary treats, was open-minded and enriching.
“It was so nice to see how open and interested people were when they approached us.”
Presentations and encounters
Care specialist Nadine Zach, who gave presentations in the seminar rooms, summed it up: “Encounters like these show how important it is to break down barriers and bring children’s hospice work into the mainstream.”
A day to remember
“We would like to thank everyone who made this day possible – all the helpers, our celebrity guests, donors, our employees, and of course the many visitors,” said Christiane Schüddekopf (Board Member and Executive Director). “It is a matter close to our hearts to make children’s hospice work transparent – and we are grateful for all the encouragement and support we received.”
