April Newsletter 2026: Silent anchor
Grandparents in the Spotlight
When a child is diagnosed with a life‑limiting illness, the entire family structure is shaken. Grandparents worry not only about their seriously ill grandchild, but also about their own child — who, as a mother or father, is often pushed to the limits of their strength. They listen, they provide support, and they are often indispensable emotional anchors. But who supports them?
At the end of last year, we offered our first-ever Grandparents’ Week, dedicating an entire week solely to grandparents and their seriously ill grandchildren. While the parents were able to take a much-needed break at home, we created a safe and caring space for heartfelt conversations, shared outings, quiet moments, and, above all, for meeting other grandparents who share similar experiences.
The Family Office – the first step into the Sternenbrücke
Before a family comes to stay with us, our Family Office is often their very first point of contact with our children’s hospice. In the new issue of ‘Sternenbrücke Aktuell,’ Anne and Katja talk about their work in this area. They share stories of meaningful encounters and personal experiences, as well as the challenges families face when navigating this difficult journey.
